Your Will is an important way of looking after the future of all the people you care most about. After you've taken care of your loved ones, you may also wish to leave a gift in your Will to support causes you believe in.
Leaving a legacy to Welfare Association is one of the greatest gifts that you can give – you will be helping to fund projects that could save hundreds of thousands of lives and that will support the future of some of the poorest families.
By remembering us in this way, you're ensuring that our good work lives on.
There are several kinds of gifts you can make in your Will which all help us to continue our work:
If you have decided to remember Welfare Association in your Will it is important to get the wording right. Make sure you include our full name, our registered charity number and our registered address: Welfare Association (UK) 1020238, Tower House, 226 Cromwell Road, London, SW5 0SW. Please consult your solicitor for advice on the most appropriate way for you to leave a gift in your will to Welfare Association
If you would like to include Welfare Association in your will we advise that you visit your solicitor. Make sure you include our full name, our registered charity number and our registered address: Welfare Association (UK) 1020238, Tower House, 226 Cromwell Road, London, SW5 0SW.
Below is suggested wording that your solicitor can use:
For a share of your estate:
I give all/a share of (please state fraction/percentage) of the residue of my estate absolutely to Welfare Association of Tower House, 226 Cromwell Road, London, SW5 0SW, Registered Charity Number 1020238, to be applied by Welfare Association for its charitable purposes, and I further direct that the receipt of the Hon. Treasurer or any other proper officer of Welfare Association for the time being shall be sufficient discharge to my executors.
For a specific sum:
I give to Welfare Association of Tower House, 226 Cromwell Road, London, SW5 0SW, Registered Charity Number 1020238, absolutely, the sum (amount in figures, amount in words) to be applied by Welfare Association for its charitable purposes, and I further direct that the receipt of the Hon. Treasurer or any other proper officer of Welfare Association for the time being shall be sufficient discharge to my executors.
For a specific item:
I give to Welfare Association of Tower House, 226 Cromwell Road, London, SW5 0SW, Registered Charity Number 1020238, absolutely, (write in here whatever you wish to give) to be applied by Welfare Association for its charitable purposes, and I further direct that the receipt of the Hon. Treasurer or any other proper officer of Welfare Association for the time being shall be sufficient discharge to my executors.
If you would like to add a donation to Welfare Association to an existing Will, you can use a Codicil.
If you already have a will, the simplest way to make alterations is by making a Codicil. This is an addition or change to a will. Every time you want to update your will you can prepare a Codicil and you can have as many of these as you like.
Adding a Codicil to your Will means there is no need to change the terms of your current Will. It simply adds a new instruction. However you will need to make sure that your Codicil is legally binding (a solicitor will do this for you) and that it is kept with your will.
Most gifts made during your lifetime are tax-free, as long as you make them at least seven years before your death. If you don't, inheritance tax will be taken from all that you own above the current threshold amount. A gift to a registered charity, however, is always free from inheritance tax. So a legacy to a charity such as Welfare Association would effectively reduce any tax you have to pay.
Yes you can, but the work that most needs our support changes over time. So, your gift is much more flexible and effective if you specify that it can be used where the need is greatest.
You can read more about how to leave a gift in your Will at the Remember a Charity website.
