Leaving a Legacy

Leaving a legacy

There are few people who can afford to make substantial cash gifts during their lifetime, but many can make a big difference when leaving a legacy donation. Leaving a legacy in your will can make a huge difference to the lives of the Palestinians, many of whom live below the poverty line. It does not take a large sum of money to make a big difference either.

Making a will doesn't have to be costly or complicated. The best way to make a will is through your solicitor or legal adviser. If you already have a will, the simplest way to make alterations is by making a Codicil. This is an instruction that is kept with your existing Will and which your solicitor can draw up.

How to leave a legacy to Welfare Association

If you would like to include Welfare Association in your will we advise that you visit your solicitor. Below is suggested wording that your solicitor can use.

For a share of your estate:
I give all/a share of (please state fraction/percentage) of the residue of my estate absolutely to Welfare Association of Tower House, 226 Cromwell Road, London, SW5 0SW, Registered Charity Number 1020238, to be applied by Welfare Association for its charitable purposes, and I further direct that the receipt of the Hon. Treasurer or any other proper officer of Welfare Association for the time being shall be sufficient discharge to my executors.

For a specific sum:
I give to Welfare Association of Tower House, 226 Cromwell Road, London, SW5 0SW, Registered Charity Number 1020238, absolutely, the sum (amount in figures, amount in words) to be applied by Welfare Association for its charitable purposes, and I further direct that the receipt of the Hon. Treasurer or any other proper officer of Welfare Association for the time being shall be sufficient discharge to my executors.

For a specific item:
I give to Welfare Association of Tower House, 226 Cromwell Road, London, SW5 0SW, Registered Charity Number 1020238, absolutely, (write in here whatever you wish to give) to be applied by Welfare Association for its charitable purposes, and I further direct that the receipt of the Hon. Treasurer or any other proper officer of Welfare Association for the time being shall be sufficient discharge to my executors.

Will you pay tax on your legacies?

Most gifts made during your lifetime are tax-free, as long as you make them at least seven years before your death. If you don't, inheritance tax will be taken from all that you own above the current threshold amount. A gift to a registered charity, however, is always free from inheritance tax. So a legacy to a charity such as Welfare Association would effectively reduce any tax you have to pay.

Thank you for your generous support.
