52% of Gaza's children are anaemic according to the Palestininan Medical Relief Society, while 40% unemployment leaves most families unable to buy the basics for a healthy diet.
Welfare Association is working to support the most vulnerable children in Gaza through grants for Kindergartens and the Child Nutrition Programme.
The Kindergarten of Al Falah charitable Society is located in Jabalia, the northern part of the Gaza Strip. It serves the community in Jabalia, Al Salam Area, and Ezbit Abed Rabo, areas hardest hit by the conflict of December 2008 to January 2009.
The WA project for Al Falah Kindergarten includes the following activities:
- Child Nutrition Programme (medical examinations of children, supplying nutritious food items on a daily basis in a healthy meal).
- Clothing (winter jackets, shoes).
- Educational support (covering fees, supplying stationery, bags and uniforms).
- Psychosocial support targeting both children and teachers.
- Rehabilitation of kitchensand toilets, and supplying clean drinking water.
