The Welfare Association’s objective is the reduction of poverty for marginalised Palestinian communities, especially children and the disabled, with support for health, education, agriculture and emergency services in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank and the Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon.
We aim to:
• Work with the most vulnerable Palestinian children, their families and local communities in humanitarian and development projects.
• Increase awareness of the humanitarian situation and daily life in Palestine and in Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon.
• Encourage people in the UK to support our work through donating funds and giving their time and expertise.
• Work in co-ordination and co-operation with, Welfare Association (Geneva) and local partner organisations in Palestine & Lebanon.
We do this in our programmes, which can be broadly categorised as follows:
Health: support for disabled children and psychosocial interventions of children in Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon, expansion of the Gaza community-based rehabilitation programme, and water and sanitation programmes in Gaza.
Education: support for the schools health programme in Palestine. A component of training and capacity building runs through many of our programmes with the aim of upgrading local skills and self-sustainability when the programme ends.
Additional sustainable development support for the most vulnerable communities: includes the development of agriculture in West Bank and Gaza, such as home gardens and greenhouse repair to improve food security, microenterprise programmes and activities to support youth employment and job placements.
Emergency humanitarian relief work: this is currently focussed on emergency humanitarian activities in Gaza.
Focussed UK advocacy: raising awareness of needs, our programmes and the situation affecting the daily lives of our project beneficiaries overseas. |
